Old Christ Church Wedding | Timeless Whimsical Wedding in Pensacola, Florida

filed in:

Old Christ Church in Pensacola, Florida is truly a timeless gem. Located in the heart of downtown Pensacola, it’s historic charm, high ceilings, and ornate stained glass makes this church the perfect place for a whimsical wedding filled with love, laughter, and joy.

You may remember Marisa and Jordan from a previous blog post I wrote on their engagement. (If you’re new and need a little introduction to this lovely couple, you can read about their engagement here.)

I had the absolute pleasure of traveling to Pensacola to document their wedding. An incredible day filled with scattered thunderstorms followed by blue skies, roaring laughter, and enough love to keep you warm during a long winter.

Old Christ Church Wedding

When I arrived at Marisa’s Airbnb, she was getting the finishing touches done on her hair and makeup. Her bridesmaids were in the room with her, arranging and completing their bouquets and floral arrangements for the day. A mix of red roses, pink lilies, and deep purple carnations were thoughtfully plucked and placed into their rightful bunches while I went to find a window to capture their details.

Among the details that were provided was a small gold jewelry box that belonged to Jordan’s mother. Inside read a note that made me tear up. I knew I had to incorporate it into their details photos, and the results are stunning.

As I was photographing their details, everyone could hear thunder rumbling closer and closer to us. There was a chance of isolated thunderstorms the afternoon of their wedding, but I thought we had a little more time. Just like any wedding, we had to move some things around on the timeline to ensure we could still get photos of Marisa and her bridesmaids without getting totally soaked from the rain, so we took a trip to the boys Airbnb to use their space and kick them out (respectfully).

After we made it, everything went smoothly for the rest of the day. Marisa got into her dress, we snapped a few photos of her and her bridesmaids, and headed off to Old Christ Church to get them married.

Marisa waited in the back with her girls, she planned on doing a first look with her father and a first touch with Jordan right before the ceremony. At this point in the day, the excitement and anticipation in the air was palpable. The nervous excitement was electric.

Their ceremony began at 4:00pm at Old Christ Church. The sun was slowly but surely paving its way across the sky, now with no rain clouds to disturb it. The sunlight angled into the stained glass of Old Christ Church and painted the floor of the altar and those who stood on it in an iridescent and dreamy rainbow light, as if heaven itself was right outside the window.

Their ceremony was stunning, tearful, and deeply sentimental. A ring warming was held during their ceremony, where the wedding bands are passed from one end of the ceremony space to the other. Their friends and loved ones held their rings and warmed them in their hands, signifying their blessings and well wishes for Marisa + Jordan. After they exchanged their nuptials, the pews erupted in thunderous applause and cheers as they shared their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs. Orlando. Marisa and Jordan walked down the aisle together, hand in hand, into the newest and most exciting chapter of their lives.

While their guests went off to cocktail hour at Agapi, Marisa and Jordan stayed back with me at Old Christ Church to take their portraits. We took advantage of every minute, every pew, and every beam of light pouring through the stained glass window of Old Christ Church. It was also a great way to beat the heat, Old Christ Church has marvelous air conditioning and we definitely took advantage.

Marisa and Jordan made their grand entrance at Agapi while their friends and family cheered them on. The air was full of joy as they joined their guests for cocktail hour. During their reception, they did something that I had never seen before. Marisa and Jordan are avid trivia players, and had each table at their reception team up to play trivia with them. It was a small but thoughtful and unique experience that made their reception even more special to them and their guests.
